A Pusher Centrifuge is a type of continuous filtration centrifuge used for separating solids from liquids in a slurry, especially when processing large volumes of crystalline or granular solids. It’s widely used in the chemical, pharmaceutical, fertilizer, and salt industries.
⚙️ Working Principle of Pusher Centrifuge:Slurry Feed:
A slurry (solid-liquid mixture) is fed into the rotating basket of the centrifuge.
Filtration Begins:
The centrifugal force pushes the liquid (mother liquor) through a filter screen or perforated basket, leaving the solids behind.
Pushing Mechanism:
A reciprocating pusher plate (or plunger) pushes the solids axially towards the discharge end of the basket in pulses.
Continuous Solids Discharge:
The dried solids are continuously discharged from the front end, while fresh slurry enters from the back end.
Mother Liquor Collection:
The liquid passes through the filter and is collected separately.
| Part | Function |
|---|---|
| Rotating Basket | Holds the slurry; provides filtration surface |
| Filter Medium | Perforated screen or mesh for solid-liquid separation |
| Pusher Plate (Ram) | Moves solids toward discharge using back-and-forth motion |
| Feed Pipe | Feeds slurry into the rotating basket |
| Drive System | Powers the basket and pusher |
| Discharge Chute | For solid cake removal |
Continuous operation – ideal for large-scale processing
Efficient solid-liquid separation
Low moisture content in discharged solids
Handles high solids concentration slurries
Low energy consumption per unit of production
Not suitable for very fine particles (may pass through filter)
Higher mechanical complexity (more moving parts)
Not ideal for fragile crystals (can break due to pushing action)
Requires regular maintenance of the pusher mechanism
Sodium chloride, potassium chloride, ammonium sulfate
Pharmaceutical crystals
PET chips
PVC and other plastics
Minerals and fine chemicals
